Key West Travel Guide & Our Stay at The Perry Hotel

Recently, my husband and I took a trip to Key West, Florida to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Although I live close to Florida this was actually my first time visiting! I have to say, Key West was everything I expected and more!  It’s not only absolutely beautiful but also a hot spot for night life and amazing food. There’s also so much to do with tons of outdoor boating and water activities. Read my tips below to plan your next trip to Key West!

Where To Stay

We stayed at The Perry Hotel Key West and loved it!!  It was named Travel + Leisure’s 2019 Top 10 Resort Hotels in Florida and definitely lives up to the award.  It’s a newer hotel located on Stock Island that’s minutes away from downtown Key West. I really loved it’s unique architectural design, contemporary furnishings and rustic touches. We spent a lot of time at the pool that has a beautiful view of the marina. We loved how convenient it was to go on boating excursions with the marina just steps away! If you want to get out on the water you can choose from fishing, diving, sunset sails, dolphin cruises and more. The travel concierge (located in the lobby) was super helpful helping us pick out what activities to do.

There are also two restaurants located at the hotel that we really enjoyed and went back to numerous times. (Matt’s Stock Island Kitchen & Bar and The Salty Oyster)  I talk about them more in detail below!

Another thing worth mentioning is their complementary shuttle bus that takes you downtown and runs every hour. We took it a lot to Duval street and saved money on Ubers. If you end up staying at The Perry Hotel ask for a room with a view of the pool and marina! The room was a good size with plenty of room for the two of us. I loved how comfy their beds were and the large outdoor patio. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay there and would highly recommend it. We hope to plan a trip to go back soon!

Where To Eat

Matt’s Stock Island Kitchen & Bar

This was one of our favorite places we ate in Key West! It’s American coastal comfort food which a variety of dishes. It’s located at The Perry Hotel and is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We enjoyed breakfast there in the mornings and I really loved their amazing caprese omelet!  I also highly recommend having dinner there. The seafood platter is just as good as it looks! It was super fresh and delicious!! This is a must if you dine there for dinner. (see pictures below)

The Salty Oyster

The Salty Oyster is another restaurant located at The Perry Hotel that we loved & kept going back to!  It’s more of a casual laid-back spot that’s perfectly located to grab poolside drinks and food. We tried a lot on their menu but my favorites were the smoked fish dip, stock yard tacos, fries and their refreshing frozen drinks!

What We Did

We spent a lot of time hanging out by the pool and enjoying all the great food, but we also wanted to get out on the water and experience Key West! We took two different boat excursions while we were there and I’d highly recommend both of them. The first one was a dolphin and snorkeling excursion that started at The Perry Hotel marina. I really liked getting to see the cute dolphins. It was crazy how close they got to the boat!

The second excursion was a catamaran cruise that included unlimited wine, cheese, and champagne. There was a small group on the boat that we ended up talking with and grabbing drinks with after. I really enjoyed the smaller group setting rather than some of the huge party boats we saw with a ton of people. This one was very relaxing and I loved getting to try out premium wines and watching the sunset on the water.

The water is so blue and beautiful in Key West it makes you feel like you’re in the Caribbean.   If you get a chance to visit, I’d definitely recommend doing an activity on the water while you’re there. It definitely made our trip!
